Clinton, Ia., ha. deigned this duplex home. Flami below .how flr.t floor layout, right; second floor, leit. This duplex house -will appeal to many home builders, because it has the appearance of a large single resi dence. A moderate amount of ground space is needed and yet two comfort^ able, even luxurious, five-room apart ments are provided for. The exterior is in brick, and tile for the first story, with half-timbers and stucco above. Clipped gables are an interesting feature. .The steep shingle roof makes possible a splendid attic, which is equally accessible to both apartments and which may be finished oft into extra rooms. . The arrangement of the stairs is a noteworthy feature. Besides the sep arate front stair leading to“the second j floor home, there is a hall at the rear which proviles access with privacy for < the occupants of both floors, from base- | ment to attic. Notice, too, the privacy i of, th& two living porches on the first floor.' ; I Little Difference The' plans are practically identical ♦n each suite. The first floor has a cloak closet off the entry and a closet near the bath room, both of which are, impractical on the Second floor. The second floor living room has the dor mer rather than, casements to afford light from the second side. Casements are used through the building and are an essential factor in the excellent ap pearance of the building. The sixes of the rooms are excel- | lent. A fireplace in each living1'room j is a feature that appeals to everyone, | more especially since it is usually con- . sidered dispensable in a duplex- or two- I family house. French doors are attrac- ( tive living room and dining room. Housewifely hearts can well rejoice at the compact square kitchen, with its abundance of built-in conveniences. Across one side of it are two kitchen dressers, with sink And drainboard be tween, under the casements. There are built in shelves in the separate en try. .
